Economic Times market preview flags 23,000-23,100 as the crucial support band for Nifty heading into the week of 19 September 2026.
The Economic Times, in a Dalal Street Week Ahead report published on 19 September 2026, said the Nifty 50 index entered the week in a corrective, range-bound setup, with the 23,000-23,100 zone identified as the crucial support area and 23,500 marked as the first major resistance. The report, part of ET Markets' weekly technical outlook series, said a sustained move above 23,500 could support a rebound, while a break below 23,000 could deepen the ongoing correction.

According to the ET report, 23,500 had recently acted as support before being violated, and has now turned into the first important resistance for the index. The same report placed a broader upside marker at 23,780 and a lower support at 22,930, indicating the immediate trading range extended beyond the two headline levels. The outlook cited weak momentum indicators and subdued volatility as reasons for cautious trading, suggesting the index could see a tentative, largely range-bound start to the week unless either boundary of the zone was breached.

Corroborating Reports From the Same Week
A related Economic Times expert-view article published the same day, citing Sudeep Shah, Head of Technical and Derivatives Research at SBI Securities, described the 23,050-23,000 zone as a crucial support representing the confluence of the previous swing low and the 61.8% Fibonacci retracement of the prior rally. That piece said a decisive break below 23,000 could resume the downward move, while the 10-day EMA zone of 23,450-23,500 was flagged as the immediate hurdle, with a sustained move above it potentially opening the path toward 23,700 and 23,900.
Moneycontrol reports from the same period offered independent corroboration of the trading band. One report placed the 23,100-23,000 zone as support and the 23,500-23,600 zone as the key resistance for the following week, while another said the broader trading range could remain between 23,000 and 23,500 unless Nifty reclaimed higher resistance levels. Earlier ET coverage from June and May 2026 had similarly flagged the 23,000-23,200 band as a level the market had been testing for months, indicating the current setup reflects an extended technical inflection point rather than a new market shock.
